Admiral Capital Group Adds K.C. Nelson to its Management Team

March 18th, 2019

NEW YORK — Admiral Capital Group announced today K.C. Nelson has joined the $1.6 billion investment management firm as a principal and will primarily be responsible for capital markets relationships, research, developing new products and managing impact initiatives that are core to Admiral’s mission. Nelson joins Admiral from Driehaus Capital Management, where he was lead portfolio manager for several billion dollars of assets invested in various alternative strategies.

“We are very pleased to welcome K.C. to Admiral. David and I have known him for over 15 years and are excited to add someone with his breadth of investment experience and investor relationships to the team,” said Dan Bassichis, Admiral co-founder and managing partner. “K.C. will certainly help us expand our platform, but equally exciting, is his commitment to our overall mission. It is incredibly encouraging to be able to attract this caliber of talent to a smaller firm, and it is a testament to our culture and desire to make an impact.”

Prior to joining Admiral, Nelson led the development of the alternatives division at Driehaus Capital Management. Upon joining Driehaus in 2009, Nelson served as the lead portfolio manager for the Driehaus Active Income Fund (ticker: LCMAX). Under his leadership, this fund grew from several hundred million to approximately $5 billion in AUM. Additionally, the fund became a pioneer strategy as one of the first long-short credit funds to be offered in a mutual fund vehicle. Later on, Nelson served as the lead portfolio manager on two other alternative funds – one a multi-strategy credit fund and the other an event-driven fund. Collectively, assets under management in these funds averaged several billion dollars during his nine-year tenure at the firm. Additionally, Nelson served on the firm’s management committee and was a leading investment voice for the firm. His thoughts on the credit markets and the alternatives industry were regularly reflected on Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times and CNBC. Prior to Driehaus, Nelson worked at Lotsoff Capital Management where he served as the lead portfolio manager for a multi-strategy credit mutual fund and hedge fund. Nelson graduated from Vanderbilt University with an honors degree in economics and obtained an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, where he was a Keller Scholar.

“I have been impressed with K.C.’s financial expertise for many years and couldn’t be happier that he chose to join Admiral,” said David Robinson, Admiral co-founder. “K.C. was committed to helping The Carver Academy in San Antonio from the early days, and we know he is deeply committed to our mission to build a profitable business and give back to support our communities,” Robinson added.
