Wood Partners Promotes Curtis Walker to Director; Responsible for Acquisitions in the East

April 2nd, 2013

Promotion Rewards Walker’s Robust Acquisitions Over the Past Two Years and Underscores the Company’s Commitment to Its Acquisition Team

ATLANTA – April 2, 2013 – Wood Partners announced today it is promoting Curtis Walker to acquisitions director, a coveted partnership position with the third ranked commercial developer in the country.

Walker has been a key player on Wood Partner’s acquisition team, which he joined in 2010, and is now responsible for pursuing existing and stabilized multifamily properties across the Eastern United States.

“Over the past two years, Walker has been instrumental in building our acquisition business from the ground up,” said Wood Partners’ CFO/COO Joe Keough. “He has been responsible for sourcing and executing nearly $500 million worth of acquisitions during his tenure.  We are proud to add Curtis to our partnership ranks.”

The acquisition team of Wood Partners targets the top 20 metropolitan markets with an eye for out-of-favor markets with high population and job growth while avoiding the currently more expensive high-barrier coastal and over-heated urban markets.

While the company has been more active on the development side in recent years, there is still a firm commitment to acquisitions as part of its diversified platform.

“There continues to be a strong dynamic for acquisitions in select markets,” Walker said. “We expect to see a significant number of opportunities to buy wisely over the next few years. Our goal for 2013 is to acquire $200-$400 million worth of properties nationally, which we feel is a realistic, if optimistic target.”

In the East, Walker says the team’s near-term focus is on Georgia, Florida and Texas because there are stronger recovery plays in those markets.

Walker has more than 29 years of experience in the real estate industry. He has held senior level positions in acquisitions at Trammel Crow Company, Post Properties, Fairfield Residential and AMLI Residential.

“Not only does Curtis have a tremendous amount of multifamily experience, having acquired billions of dollars worth of product, he also has an intuitive feel for real estate and what it takes to make good real estate decisions,” Keough said.
